Use of the Abbott i-STAT®1 point of care device for hCG quantification in early pregnancy.
(PubMed, Int J Gynaecol Obstet)
- "All hCG results from the i-STAT®1 analyzer were clinically concordant with the central laboratory method, supporting its application in an EPU setting using established clinical decision thresholds. However, further verification through larger-scale studies is necessary before the i-STAT®1 analyzer can be integrated into clinical practice."

Hook effect although rare, still exists.
(PubMed, Clin Biochem)
- "In cases of discrepancies between laboratory data and clinical findings, it is essential to consult with laboratory specialists to rule out analytical interferences. To minimize the risk of the hook effect, we modified the analytical procedure and submitted a report to Siemens European Support."

Interference of recombinant human interferon α2b in human chorionic gonadotropin assays: a case report and clinical analysis.
(PubMed, AME Case Rep)
- "However, her serum β-hCG measured by electrochemiluminescence was <0.200 IU/L, and her progesterone was 29.3 nmol/L...Clinicians and laboratory professionals should be aware of the potential for rhIFN-α2b to cause assay interference and collaborate closely to ensure accurate interpretation of test results. This case calls for further research into the prevalence of rhIFN-α2b-induced hCG assay interference and the development of strategies to mitigate its impact on clinical diagnostics."

Lack of observed interference by therapeutic monoclonal antibodies in select commonly utilized immunoassays.
(PubMed, Clin Biochem)
- "These findings demonstrate no detectable tmab interference for the assessed immunoassays using spiked preparations of the tmabs in residual human sera. The findings are limited to the tmabs and immunoassays studied here."

Ambulatory human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) testing: a verification of two hCG point of care devices.
(PubMed, Clin Chem Lab Med)
- "Both hCG POCT devices were verified for use in clinical practice. Practical factors must also be considered when choosing which device to use in each unit."

Utility of Commercially Available Quantitative hCG Immunoassays as Tumor Markers in Trophoblastic and Non-Trophoblastic Disease.
(PubMed, Clin Chem)
- "While no immunoassay is likely to be perfect in all clinical situations, results for the 5 hCG immunoassays evaluated suggest that all are adequate for use of hCG as a tumor marker in gestational trophoblastic disease and select germ cell tumors. Further harmonization of hCG methods is needed as serial testing for biochemical tumor monitoring must still be performed using a single method. Additional studies are needed to assess the utility of quantitative hCG as a tumor marker in other malignant disease."

Early (Days 1-4) post-treatment serum hCG level changes predict single-dose methotrexate treatment success in tubal ectopic pregnancy.
(PubMed, Hum Reprod)
- "Examining a large prospective cohort, we show the value of Days 1-4 serum hCG changes in predicting single-dose methotrexate treatment success in tubal ectopic pregnancy. We recommend that clinicians provide early reassurance to women who have a fall or only a modest (<18%) rise in Days 1-4 serum hCG levels, that their treatment will likely be effective."

A high-rate and long-life aqueous rechargeable Mg-ion battery based on an organic anode integrating diimide and triazine.
(PubMed, ChemSusChem)
- "Results showed remarkable outcomes of 3D-P(PDI-T) anode: an extremely high rate capacity-358 mAh g-1 at 0.05 A g-1; 3D-P(PDI-T)‖Mg2MnO4 full cell: significant reversible capacity-148 mAh g-1 and long cycle life-5000 cycles at 0.5 A g-1...The assembled 3D-P(PDI-T)‖Mg2MnO4 full cell exhibited a capacity retention of around 95% after 5000 cycles at 0.5 A g-1. This anode-3D-P(PDI-T) electrode sustained its special framework structure during the discharge/charge cycles of Mg-ion batteries. Our results provide strong support for a cutting-edge molecular engineering technique for improved organic materials that facilitate the efficient charge-storage behavior of aqueous Mg-ion batteries."

Pregnancy disrupts the accuracy of automated fT4 immunoassays.
(PubMed, Eur Thyroid J)
- "Our results indicate that immunoassays overestimate fT4 in pregnant women, which might lead to an overestimation of thyroid status. Physicians and laboratory specialists should be aware of this phenomenon to avoid drawing false conclusions about thyroid function in pregnant women."
