Pilot Study: Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability Indices in Mules Evaluated by 24-Hour Electrocardiogram.
(PubMed, Animals (Basel))
- "Vision 5 Holter Analysis Software was utilized for ECG review and analysis...Arrhythmias were consistent with the range of cardiac rhythms observed in horses and more frequent than reported in donkeys. Further investigation with a larger sample size of mules is warranted to determine if reference values for horses should continue to be used to assess mules and to investigate the prevalence of arrhythmias and their clinical relevance in the mule."

COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine-Associated Uveitis Leading to Diagnosis of Sarcoidosis: Case Report and Review of Literature.
(PubMed, J Investig Med High Impact Case Rep)
- "A 34-year-old Japanese person with male gender identity who had been taking intramuscular injection of methyltestosterone depot for 11 years after bilateral mastectomy noticed blurred vision 5 days after the second vaccination for COVID-19 (Tozinameran; Pfizer-BioNTech) in the interval of 3 weeks following the first vaccination...The systemic symptoms were relieved by oral prednisolone 20 mg daily. Even though the causal relationship remains undetermined, this case is unique at the point that vaccine-associated uveitis led to the detection of pulmonary lesions and lymphadenopathy, resulting in clinical and pathological diagnosis of sarcoidosis. In literature review, 3 patients showed sarcoidosis-like diseases after COVID-19 vaccination: 2 patients were diagnosed clinically as Lofgren syndrome with acute onset of erythema nodosum and ankle swelling, with or without mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathy, whereas 1 patient with mediastinal lymphadenopathy but no uveitis was..."

[VIRTUAL] Healthcare transition outcomes among young adults with pediatric-onset chronic pain
(IASP 2021)
- "Drotar-Crawford Postdoctoral Fellowship Research Grant, American Psychological Association, Division 54 (Society of Pediatric Psychology) Background and Aims: One in four adolescents experience chronic pain, and, of these, an estimated half will experience pain persisting into adulthood... For adolescents with chronic pain, our findings indicate a poor prognosis of chronic pain persisting into young adulthood accompanied by significant elevations in disability and mental health concerns. Although participants demonstrate the need for continued chronic pain health services, many may experience gaps in care, highlighting the critical need to develop transition guidelines and services in this population."

miR-590-5p targets RMND5A and promotes migration in pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell lines.
(PubMed, Oncol Lett)
- "Required for meiotic nuclear division 5 homolog A (RMND5A) functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase...In addition, overexpression of miR-590-5p attenuated the promoting effects of RMND5A on the migration of AsPC-1 and PANC-1 cells. The results of the present study may further elucidate the mechanisms underlying PAAD progression and provide novel targets for the treatment of PAAD."

[VIRTUAL] Effect of Age on Reduced Child-Reported Eye-Related Quality of Life and Functional Vision in Strabismus
(ARVO 2021)
- " A significantly greater proportion of 12- to 17-year-olds vs 5- to 11-year-olds had reduced scores on each of the four Child PedEyeQ domains: Social 89% vs 19%, (mean difference 71%, 95% CI 56% to 85%; P<0.001), Frustration/Worry 75% vs 21% (mean difference 54%, 95% CI 35% to 72%; P<0.001), Functional Vision 57% vs 34% (mean difference 23%, 95% CI 1% to 44%; P=0.044) and Bothered by Eyes/Vision 57% vs 31% (mean difference 26%, 95% CI 4% to 47%; P=0.02)... A greater proportion of adolescents report reduced (below the 5th percentile threshold) functional vision and reduced ER-QOL domain scores compared with 5- to 11-year-olds, especially on the Social and Frustration/Worry domains. This effect of child age likely reflects, at least in part, a more realistic self-concept in adolescents. Interpretation of individual scores in younger clinical populations is also made challenging by the considerable variability in 5- to 11-year-old normal controls, such that thresholds..."

Patterns of ellipsoid zone change associated with visual outcome for diabetic macular oedema.
(PubMed, Clin Exp Optom)
- "Higher EZ scores (p = 0.016), but not baseline EZ disruption (p = 0.56), were less likely to have improvement of final vision 5 letters or more. Macular perfusion status played an independent role in EZ dynamics. Duration of EZ disruption could be more predictive than baseline status for improvement of vision over 12 months."

Multi-kingdom characterization of the core equine fecal microbiota based on multiple equine (sub)species.
(PubMed, Anim Microbiome)
- "Whilst differences were observed between equine types, a core fecal microbiota existed across all the equines. This core was composed primarily of a few predominant bacterial taxa, the majority of which are novel and lack cultured representation. The lack of microbial cultures representing the predominant taxa needs to be addressed, as their availability is essential to gain fundamental knowledge of the microbial functions that underpin the equine hindgut ecosystem."

[VIRTUAL] Preclinical prenatal alcohol exposure and placental insufficiency result in altered cerebellar peduncle microstructure
(WSMRF 2021)

Additional studies are needed to further characterize this injury and the impact this may have on function related to these critical brain regions."
