NGS-Based Characterization of Multiple Myeloma Mutation Profile: Comparison with G-Banding and FISH
(AMP 2024)
- " Seventy-three MM patients admitted to Dong-A University Hospital, Busan, in Korea were enrolled for the study... Risk stratification is increasingly important in the management of MM. As seen from the current study, MM seems a quite complex and heterogeneous malignancy. FISH with relevant 7 panels showed the highest detection rates."

Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation May Be Harmful in Septic Patients with Severe Lactic Acidosis: A Retrospective Analysis
(KIDNEY WEEK 2024)
- "We aimed to evaluate the effect of sodium bicarbonate on mortality in patients with severe septic lactic acidosis. Single-center analysis was conducted from May 2011 to April 2021 at Dong-A University Hospital, Korea... Administrating sodium bicarbonate may be harmful in septic patients with severe lactic acidosis. Sodium bicarbonate should be carefully administered in septic lactic acidosis even with pH<7.0. Figure 1."

Clinical Outcomes of Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis Treated with Tamoxifen in Patients with ESKD: A Retrospective, Single-Center Analysis
(KIDNEY WEEK 2024)
- "We included 34 EPS patients (mean age: 59.0 ± 11.7 years, male: 55.9%) who were diagnosed with abdominal computed tomography and treated with tamoxifen in Dong-A university hospital. Tamoxifen may be safe and essential for EPS treatment in patients with history of PD treatment. Further studies are necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of long term treatment with tamoxifen. Figure 1."

Insulin resistance in metabolic associated steatotic liver disease and its association with liver-related outcomes: a retrospective study and a nationwide, population-based study
(EASL-ILC 2024)
- " We retrospectively analyzed data from 361 patients diagnosed with MASLD who underwent liver biopsy at Dong-A University Hospital between January 2015 and November 2023... This study showed the change of IR according to fibrosis grade and revealed a decrease of IR was linked to a rise in fatal liver-related complications, indirectly suggesting nutritional imbalance and decreased liver mediator function during the progression of liver fibrosis. Changes in metabolic parameters in MASLD patients should be reassessed for its association with the liver-related diseases."

Predictors related to Upgrade after diagnosed intraductal papilloma on Core needle biopsy
(ESSO 2023)
- "The patients had core needle biopsy in Dong-A Medical center between December 2010 and December 2020...Age and BI-RADS category, atypia presence in initial diagnosis are a significant predictive factor of upgrade. Therefore, surgical excision is recommended for older patients, suspicious ultrasound findings and atypical intraductal papilloma patients."

Alpha Asymmetry as biomarker for Mild Cognitive Impairment
(AAIC 2023)
- "Subjects were recruited by Chung-Ang University (153 HC, 111 MCI), iMediSync(164 HC, 76 MCI), Dong-a Medical Center(84 MCI) and Pusan Medical Center(46 MCI)... This study illustrates the potential of APA as a biomarker for MCI. Current applications of APA are confined to emotional-related studies, such as depressive disorder. The reported cases of MCI-associated depression also uphold the validity of APA as a biomarker for MCI."

Diagnostic Performance of Serum M2BPGi Compared with Other Serological Panels for Biopsy-proven Advanced Fibrosis and Cirrhosis in NAFLD
(APASL 2023)
- " From March 2017 to September 2022, we enrolled 118 patients diagnosed with NAFLD at Dong-A University Hospital in Busan and who underwent liver biopsy... The serum M2BPGi level was correlated with the degree of hepatic fibrosis. As a result of analysis by AUROC of M2BPGi, it showed sufficient diagnostic performance in cases of severe fibrosis such as advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis. Therefore, M2BPGi is expected to be useful in clinical situations including primary medical centers because it is easy to measure and a higher value suggests the severity of liver fibrosis."

Genetic Mutation Profile and Prognostic Significance in Acute Leukemia Based on Next-Generation Sequencing Technique: A Single-Institute Study
(AMP 2022)
- " Between November 2018 and January 2021, a total of 67 patients who were newly diagnosed with acute leukemia (57 for acute myeloid leukemia [AML], 10 for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL]) at Dong-A University Hospital were screened for AML or ALL associated gene mutations (49 genes for AML and 49 genes for ALL) using NGS... There are limitations in diagnosing and determining AML/ALL prognosis using the conventional cytogenetics. Targeted gene panel sequencing analyses can be clinically useful for patients with acute leukemia. It is expected that NGS technology will be an essential diagnostic tool for acute leukemia as a complementary test with conventional cytogenetics."

(DDW 2022)
- "Methods : We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent screening or surveillance colonoscopy performed at Dong-A University Hospital between June 2020 and March 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic...In both the experienced endoscopist group and trainee endoscopist group, there was no difference in the colonoscopy quality indicators between the groups of patients examined by endoscopists with and without face shields. Conclusion s: The quality indicators of colonoscopy were not affected by face shields during the COVID-19 pandemic."
