Impact of antihypertensive treatment on cardiovascular event reduction in patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
(PubMed, Pan Afr Med J)
- "The results reported that enalapril and fosinopril demonstrated dual benefits in blood pressure (BP) reduction and vascular remodeling, though meta-analysis showed statistically insignificant improvements in regional cerebral blood flow (CI: -0.84, 6.08, P = 0.14, I2= 94%). Similarly, isradipine, lacidipine, and amlodipine improved carotid hemodynamics and cerebral perfusion, with meta-analysis favoring calcium channel blocker intervention for blood pressure management (CI: -3.25 to 7.64, P = 0.43)...Moreover, beta-blockers showed specific benefits, with metoprolol improving plaque echogenicity (57.3 ± 16.8 vs. 51.8 ± 20.0, p = 0.006) and reducing cardiovascular events (17% vs. 37% placebo, p = 0.011), while labetalol effectively managed post-endarterectomy hypertension. In conclusion, antihypertensive treatments showed varying effectiveness in cardiovascular event reduction and improvements in vessel measures."

Acute cardiovascular complaints after recreational drug use
(PubMed, Ned Tijdschr Geneeskd)
- "For arrhythmia, labetalol, carvedilol, lidocaine and sodium bicarbonate can be considered. The use of beta-blockers is still under debate but should be considered in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Therefore, always question patients with cardiovascular complaints about recreational drug use, know this changes management, and provide drug counselling."

Tachycardia-Induced Cardiomyopathy Due to Atrial Tachycardia During Pregnancy.
(PubMed, J Cardiothorac Vasc Anesth)
- "At 28 weeks of gestation, an electrocardiogram indicated sinus tachycardia, and treatment with labetalol was ineffective in controlling the heart rate...During the procedure, the patient experienced 2 episodes of cardiac arrest and underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This case serves as a critical reminder that persistent, unexplained sinus tachycardia in pregnancy may mask underlying focal atrial tachycardia and portend a high risk for rapidly deteriorating tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy, demanding vigilant evaluation and preemptive management strategies."

COMPLEX CARDIOVASCULAR MANIFESTATIONS IN OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA: A CASE REPORT OF SEVERE LVH, RIGHT VENTRICULAR COLLAPSE, AND PERICARDIAL EFFUSION IN A 54-YEAR-OLD FEMALE
(CHEST 2025)
- "She was treated with Lasix and labetalol. Osteogenesis imperfecta is associated with a high incidence of valvular heart disease, particularly aortic and mitral regurgitation. While only nine cases of valvular insufficiencies and aortic dissection were documented in OI, this is the first study that may have suggested that OI may have contributed to right ventricular collapse in diastole, exacerbating the pericardial effusion, a complication not commonly associated with the condition."
