Hepatitis B Vaccine Compliance and Seroresponse Rates Among Solid Organ Transplant Recipients Receiving Recombinant versus Adjuvanted HBV Vaccine
(WTC 2025)
- "Subjects that received Engerix-B (GSK) or Recombivax-HB (Merck) were categorized as recombinant HBV vaccine, while those who received Heplisav-B (Dynavax) were categorized as adjuvanted HBV vaccine...HBV vaccine type was unknown for 23.2% (n=92), while 4.5% (n=18) received Twinrix (Hep A/B)... HBV vaccination rates remain suboptimal in SOTR. There was a trend towards higher HBV vaccine completion rates with adjuvanted HBV vaccine. While there was no difference in seroresponse between adjuvanted and recombinant HBV vaccination, seroresponse rates to adjuvanted HBV vaccine were lower in this cohort than those achieved in phase 3 clinical trials (over 90%)."

Is it time to rethink our strategy in Hepatitis B virus (HBV) booster vaccination?
(APASL 2024)
- " Case Report and Literature Review In December 2018, the patient received 3-dose Twinrix vaccination series after negative testing for HBsAg, Anti-HBs and antiHBcoreAb... This patient developed acute HBV despite being vaccinated 3 years prior with a positive anti-HBs titre. This raises the question of the need for serial anti-HBs testing post vaccination, and whether there is a role of booster vaccines for patients with early decline in anti-HBs titres. If adapted, this may lead to significant changes in public health strategies against HBV."

Malaria transmission-blocking vaccines Pfs230D1-EPA and Pfs25-EPA in Alhydrogel in healthy Malian adults; a phase 1, randomised, controlled trial.

Impacts of Systematically Screening All Blood Donations for Parvovirus B19 and Hepatitis A Using Nucleic Acid Tests
(AABB 2022)
- "Neither of them had travelled nor had risk factors for hepatitis A. They all had a recent history of hepatitis A vaccination in the days prior to the donation (Havrix: 2 days and 1 day, Twinrix: 6 days). The rate of parvovirus B19 positivity was much lower than expected, possibly because of the sanitary measures during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The three individuals who tested positive for hepatitis A were presumably false positives due to recent vaccination with inactivated viral strains. We introduced a seven-day deferral after HAV vaccination to minimize the negative impacts of false-positive results."

[VIRTUAL] Hepatitis B vaccine NON-RESPONDERS show higher frequencies of REGULATORY B CELLS, but lower levels of IL-10 expression compared to responders
(EASL-ILC 2021)
- "The current study aimed to investigate the role of regulatory B cells (Breg) in hepatitis B vaccine non-responsiveness after immunization with second- (Twinrix®) or third-generation (Sci-B-VacTM) hepatitis B vaccines... Here we report significantly higher frequencies of CD24highCD38high Breg in parallel with significantly lower IL-10 expression levels of CD24+CD27+ and CD24highCD38high Breg in 2nd HBvac NR compared to 2nd HBvac R. Anti-HBs seroconversion accompanied by a decrease of Breg numbers after booster immun- ization with a third-generation hepatitis B vaccine could indicate a positive effect of third-generation hepatitis B vaccines on Breg mediated immunomodulation in hepatitis B vaccine non-responders."
