Efficacy of herbal medicine in hand osteoarthritis: A narrative review.
(PubMed, Curr Rheumatol Rev)
- "Currently, the need for a low-risk alternative treatment in HOA patients is felt more than ever. There are reliable references relating to the safety of Korean red ginseng, GCSB-5, XLGB, and GS-GCu in these patients, although their efficacy was limited. Additionally, herbs like curcumin and Boswellia serrata have positively affected patients with knee osteoarthritis. However, there is a lack of strong evidence supporting their effectiveness in hand osteoarthritis (HOA). This emphasizes the potential benefits that these herbs may have for HOA patients."

Effects of the administration of Shinbaro 2 in a rat lumbar disk herniation model.
(PubMed, Front Neurol)
- "The results indicated that Shinbaro 2 administration restored spinal cord morphology and functions in the LDH model. Therefore, Shinbaro 2 exerted a protective effect in LDH via actions on inflammatory responses and disk degeneration, indicating that future research is warranted to assess the action mechanisms further and validate its effects."

The Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Shinbaro3 Is Mediated by Downregulation of the TLR4 Signalling Pathway in LPS-Stimulated RAW 264.7 Macrophages.
(PubMed, Mediators Inflamm)
- "Three mechanisms explaining the effects of Shinbaro3 in RAW 264.7 cells were identified as follows: (1) inhibition of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 and 2 (ERK1/2), stress-activated protein kinase (SAPK)/c-Jun N-terminal protein kinase (JNK), and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways; (2) suppression of IκB kinase-α/β (IKK-α/β) phosphorylation and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) subunits in the NF-κB pathway, which are involved in MyD88-dependent signalling; and (3) downregulation of IFN-β mRNA expression via inhibition of interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) and Janus-activated kinase 1 (JAK1)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) phosphorylation, which is involved in TRIF-dependent signalling. Shinbaro3 exerted anti-inflammatory effects in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells through modulation of the TLR4/MyD88 pathways, suggesting that Shinbaro3 is a novel anti-inflammatory therapeutic candidate in the field of..."

Predictor of Placebo Response in Hand Osteoarthritis: A Post Hoc Analysis of Two Randomized Controlled Trials
(ACR-ARHP 2019)
- " This post hoc analysis of two double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trials investigating efficacy of GCSB-5 or diacerein in hand OA analyzed the efficacy of the placebo in patients with hand OA. This post hoc analysis of two prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled studies showed that clinically meaningful response to placebo was observed in up to one third of patients with hand OA. This positive placebo response was associated with high pain level at baseline. Further researches are needed to optimize and utilize the benefit of placebo response in OA."
