Enhancing postoperative recurrence assessment in gastric and colorectal cancer patients with intraperitoneal fluorouracil implants: overcoming the diagnostic challenge of fluorouracil implant-related tumor-like lesions.
(PubMed, Quant Imaging Med Surg)
- "When surgical information was available, the diagnostic accuracy and confidence of the radiologists were improved in stage 3 (accuracy: 100%; confidence most often classified as high) compared to stage 2 (accuracy: P=0.007; confidence: P<0.001). The diagnostic accuracy and confidence of radiologists can be improved by providing them with training on implant imaging characteristics and precise surgical record documentation on the implant location and quantity."

PROSPECT Trial: Pelvic Radiation Therapy Avoided for Most Patients With Intermediate-Risk, Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
(THE ASCO POST)
- "Julie R. Gralow, MD...said the approach featured reliable patient selection and enabled treatment optimization. Investigators were able to de-escalate therapy in 91% of patients and identify the 9% who needed treatment escalation, she emphasized during a press briefing."

3D-printed long-acting 5-fluorouracil implant to prevent conjunctival fibrosis in glaucoma.
(PubMed, J Pharm Pharmacol)
- "The PCL-CS-5-FU implant was biocompatible and degradable with a significant effect in suppressing fibroblast contractility. The PCL-CS-5-FU implant could be used as a sustained release drug implant, replacing the need for repeated 5-FU injections in clinic, to prevent conjunctival fibrosis after glaucoma surgery."

Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy Using Fluorouracil Implants Combined With Radical Resection and Postoperative Adjuvant Chemotherapy for Stage III Gastric Cancer: A Multi-Center, Randomized, Open-Label, Controlled Clinical Study.
(PubMed, Front Oncol)
- P3 | "There were neither significant differences between the groups in the incidence of hematogenous metastasis, lymph node metastasis, nor local metastasis. For cTNM stage III gastric cancer, intraoperative sustained-release fluorouracil implants after radical resection combined with postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy, could significantly reduce the risk of peritoneal recurrence and prolong PFS.Clinical Trial Registration: https://clinicaltrials.gov/, identifier (NCT02269904)."

Retrospective Cohort Study of Intraoperative Administration of Sustained-Release 5-Fluorouracil Implants in Advanced Gastric Cancer Patients.
(PubMed, Front Pharmacol)
- "Both the 5-years OS and PFS rates in 5-FU group were better than control group without significant side effect. 5-FU implants may improve 5-years OS and PFS rates after surgery in gastric cancer patients, while good safety profile suggests it could be reliable."

(PubMed, Gastroenterol Res Pract)
- "This meta-analysis provides some evidence to suggest IC may increase the incidence of postoperative AL in colorectal cancer. However, fluorouracil implantation for IC does not increase the risk of AL, which seems to be a relatively safe method of IC."
