Comparative analysis of the effectiveness of treatment for exudative otitis media and eustachitis associated with concomitant allergic rhinitis
(PubMed, Vestn Otorinolaringol)
- "To assess the comparative effectiveness of different AR therapy regimens and their impact on middle ear and Eustachian tube pathology, the 168 affected patients were divided into four parallel groups: Main group (41 patients): treated with a fixed-dose combination of mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride (Rialtris); Control group 1 (45 patients): received intranasal monotherapy with mometasone furoate; Control group 2 (41 patients): treated with the oral antihistamine levocetirizine; Control group 3 (41 patients): received combination therapy of intranasal mometasone furoate and oral levocetirizine. Due to the accelerated recovery of Eustachian tube function and restoration of its drainage capabilities, the need for invasive middle ear drainage procedures (e.g., shunting, tympanostomy) was eliminated in the group receiving the fixed intranasal combination of mometasone furoate and olopatadine hydrochloride. This fixed-dose combination appears to be the optimal..."

Comparing Antihistamines for Chronic Urticaria: Systematic Review Dose Response and Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Trials
(ACAAI 2025)
- "Sedation likely increases with higher doses, with first-generation agents among the most sedating; cetirizine, ketotifen, levocetirizine, and rupatadine among the intermediate sedating; and bilastine, desloratadine, fexofenadine, and loratadine among the least sedating. Cetirizine and loratadine are among the most effective for all components of urticaria activity, but cetirizine is intermediately sedating and loratadine has lower certainty on improving quality of life and sleep. Higher doses may have diminishing benefits and increased risks."

ANTITUBERCULAR THERAPY-INDUCED DRESS SYNDROME: A RARE BUT LIFE-THREATENING ADVERSE REACTION
(CHEST 2025)
- "Now ATT was stopped and patient is started on prednisolone (30 mg/day for 10 days), levocetirizine (5 mg/day for 10 days), atarax (10 mg/day for 5 days) and topical paraffin oil...The patient was then started on modified ATT regimen consisting isoniazid (300 mg), levofloxacin (750 mg), and linezolid (600 mg twice daily) for 6 months... Clinicians from high TB burden countries must be aware of DRESS associated with ATT. Timely management is vital as it is associated with 10% mortality and should be differentiated from other skin reactions. This case highlights the importance of recognizing DRESS syndrome as a rare but potentially life-threatening adverse reaction to ATT an emphasizes the need for early diagnosis and prompt intervention."

Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of Bilastine Versus Levocetirizine for Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
(EADV 2025)
- "A total of 5 RCTs involving 1,127 patients were included, comparing bilastine 20 mg (n = 462) to levocetirizine 5 mg (n = 449), with 216 patients assigned to placebo or fexofenadine in third-arm studies. The consistently lower risk of somnolence with bilastine reinforces its role as a better- tolerated alternative. High heterogeneity across efficacy outcomes limits certainty, highlighting the need for further high-quality, head-to-head trials."

Wells syndrome: a case report
(EADV 2025)
- "Levocetirizine 10mg/hydroxyzine 50mg and Dapsone 100mg/d were ineffective. Prednisone 0.5 mg/kg/d led to a regression of the lesions with a localised recurrence in the form of scrotal pruritus... The particularity of our observation lies in the rarity of SW and of localisations to the scalp and scrotum. The association with a dysimmune disease such as vitiligo deserves to be reported and studied."

Cross-regional University Migration Triggering Keratotic Eczema in an Adolescent—A Case Report
(EADV 2025)
- "When the patient took leave and returned to his warm, humid hometown, topical betamethasone-urea ointment, oral levocetirizine and avoidance of detergents resulted in complete clearance of lesions... This case indicates a definite association between keratotic eczema and regional environmental change. Hot, dry climate, hard water and frequent detergent use may impair the skin barrier, while psychological and lifestyle alterations caused by academic migration act as additional triggers. For susceptible students, personalised prevention strategies are recommended: environmental adaptation guidance with enhanced moisturising and reduced exposure to irritant cleansers before and after returning to campus; behavioural interventions to avoid mechanical injury such as picking of scales; and dynamic follow-up with timely adjustment of therapy during high- risk seasons or environmental transitions."

Granulomatous Rosacea with Demodicosis in a 30-year old Filipino Male: A Case Report
(EADV 2025)
- "Patient was initially assessed with allergic contact dermatitis with secondary bacterial infection versus acneiform eruption and prescribed with cefalexin, cetirizine, mild cleanser, saline solution compress, mometasone and mupirocin ointment with noted flattening and drying of some lesions...Patient was treated with levocetirizine + betamethasone tab for 5 days then doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 8 weeks...Additionally, patient was instructed gentle skin care measures, sunscreen, and application of topical ivermectin 1% cream twice a day... Recent data highlights the significant role of Demodex in the pathogenesis of granulomatous rosacea by exaggerated stimulation of the immune system, rupture of hair follicles and formation of granulomas. This case report highlights a severe flare of rosacea with granulomatous features on histopathology. This emphasizes clinical and histopathological correlation with close regular follow up and evaluation of response to systemic..."

A comprehensive clinical evaluation of levocetirizine in the treatment of chronic urticaria in children.
(PubMed, Front Pharmacol)
- "The former is superior to the latter in terms of safety, effectiveness, suitability, innovation, and accessibility, whereas the latter is more cost-effective than the former. The comprehensive clinical value of levocetirizine is greater than that of loratadine in the treatment of chronic urticaria in children, which can provide evidence for the rational use of antiallergic drugs and drug catalog selection in medical institutions."

Second-Generation H1-Receptor Antagonists, Mequitazine, Azelastine and Desloratadine Activate Caspase-8, Caspase-3, and Gasdermin E and Induce Cell Death Showing Pyroptotic-Like Features in Macrophages at Excessively High Concentrations.
(PubMed, Biol Pharm Bull)
- "Here, we examined the inflammation-modulating and cell death-inducing effects of 10 second-generation H1R antagonists on mouse intraperitoneal macrophages, which include ketotifen, mequitazine, azelastine, oxatomide, epinastine, bepotastine, fexofenadine, loratadine, levocetirizine, and desloratadine, to assess an anticipated adverse reaction. Western blotting analysis revealed that caspase-8, caspase-3, and gasdermin E (GSDME), but not gasdermin D, were cleaved and activated in the macrophages. These results suggest that second-generation H1R antagonists such as mequitazine, azelastine, and desloratadine induce pyroptotic-like cell death accompanied by caspase-8, caspase-3, and GSDME activation in macrophages."
