Maternal Obesity Programs Hepatic Cortisol Production in Adult F1 Offspring.
(SSR 2017)
- "...We hypothesized that that the MO-induced fetal hepatic cortisol production persists in adult F1 and that, as in the fetus, this is due to programmed increase in the liver 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (11ß-HSD) system...Elevated plasma cortisol was not correlated with plasma ACTH l in MO F1 suggesting either an altered adrenocortical ACTH responsiveness or cortisol production in peripheral tissues. Since multiple components of the peripheral 11βHSD system responsible for local cortisol synthesis are up regulated, we propose that this increased peripheral cortisol production is important in programmed outcomes of MO such as the metabolic syndrome."
