[VIRTUAL] Cost/waste analysis of insulin dispenses in a community hospital setting (ASHP 2020) - "The most frequently requested insulin was insulin aspart (Novolog) (43%), while NPH/ regular insulin (Humulin 70/30) was requested the least (4%). There were frequent requests to replace insulin vials on the nursing units which led to excessive pharmacy spending. A new process has been developed to dispense individual insulin doses from a secure bin in the automated dispensing cabinet. This new practice will decrease the amount of insulin waste, thus lowering the costs currently associated with the insulin management process."
