Double trouble: The first reported case of evans syndrome following RSV Vaccination
(ASH 2025)
- "Her home medications included amlodipine, losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, and she reported receiving the RSV vaccine one week before admission...The patient was started on presumed ITP treatment with a 1g/kg dose of IVIG and high-dose dexamethasone 40 mg for 4 days...Due to refractory thrombocytopenia, the treatment was shifted to rituximab after the development of hemolytic anemia. The patient received a total of 4 doses weekly, along with a prednisone taper starting at 1 mg/kg, resulting in a slow improvement in her counts back to normal...Evans syndrome ideally requires multidisciplinary care and long-term monitoring due to its chronic, relapsing nature. This case highlights the importance of ongoing pharmacovigilance and educating physicians about immune-mediated hematologic complications that can occur post-vaccination, which are rare but potentially severe."

Emulation of a Target Trial of Antihypertensive Medications on Weight Change.
(PubMed, J Gen Intern Med)
- "We observed small differences in weight change across antihypertensive medications, with lisinopril leading to weight loss and metoprolol and propranolol to modest weight gain. Clinicians should consider potential weight gain when selecting antihypertensive medications."

Severe Hemorrhagic Cheilitis as the Initial Manifestation of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Rare Case Report
(EADV 2025)
- "Her regular medications included: losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, and atorvastatin...She was started on oral prednisolone 40 mg daily along with HCQ 200mg after excluding any pre-existing maculopathy... Severe hemorrhagic cheilitis is an uncommon mucocutaneous manifestation of SLE and may be misdiagnosed due to its rarity. In this case, lower lip involvement suggested a potential role of photoaggravation. While management guidelines for oral lupus remain limited, systemic corticosteroids and HCQ showed rapid effectiveness."

(EADV 2025)
- "Her medical history included type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension, managed with metformin, losartan/hydrochlorothiazide, and amlodipine...Treatment with three sessions of intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (10 mg/mL) was initiated... PXE-PDE is a rare and under-recognized condition that requires clinical suspicion and histopathological confirmation. It should be differentiated from PXE to avoid unnecessary systemic investigations. Current treatment options remain limited, and patient response is generally poor."

Metformin Associated Lactic Acidosis - A Critical Diagnostic Priority
(ATS 2025)
- "Her home medications included metoprolol, amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide, losartan, metformin, insulin glargine and aspart. Furthermore, the level of metformin required to cause toxicity has not been clearly defined. IMPORTANCE OF CASE- With metformin's wide usage for DM and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and its recent potential as an anti-aging medication, the awareness around MALA should be increased as it can be a devastating condition as demonstrated by this case."

Endocrine Crisis and Obstruction: ACTH-producing Small Cell Lung Cancer Presenting With Superior Vena Cava Syndrome
(ATS 2025)
- "She was started on hydrochlorothiazide-losartan and potassium supplementation...Spironolactone was initiated for hypertension and refractory hypokalemia management...The patient began chemotherapy with cisplatin and etoposide, followed by immunotherapy with durvalumab, and radiation therapy with significant improvement...However, the patient's persistent facial plethora and development of right upper arm swelling, ameliorated by positional changes suggested a concomitant Superior Vena Cava (SVC) syndrome. This case highlights the importance of considering SVC syndrome in the differential diagnosis of a patient who presents with SCLC."

Long-term Medication-Induced Weight Change Across Common Antihypertensive Medications
(OBESITY WEEK 2024)
- "We focused on seven commonly prescribed antihypertensives (lisinopril, amlodipine, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide, losartan, metoprolol, propranolol) and employed a target-trial to assess weight change at 6,12, and 24 months post-initiation. We estimated that initiation and adherence to metoprolol and propranolol would result in the most persistent weight gain over time, and adherence to lisinopril would result in weight loss. Our findings suggest that patients and clinicians should consider weight gain when choosing antihypertensive treatments."

Deciphering the role of a causative agent: a challenge in the management of bullous dermatosis
(EADV 2024)
- "The list of patient ’ s chronic therapy included vildagliptin/metformin, losartan/hydrochlorothiazide, and atorvastatin, with no alterations up till 8 months before the onset of the skin lesions...Patient was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone 0.5mg/kg/day in a tapering schedule and local corticosteroid ointments, exhibiting substantial improvement, without new lesions erupting. This case highlights the complexity of diagnosing bullous pemphigoid, particularly in the context of its resemblance to other dermatological conditions such as scabies and herpes zoster. The patient ’ s presentation underscores the importance of thorough evaluation and consideration of drug-induced factors in autoimmune diseases, as illustrated in this case, given the fact that almost all of the previously mentioned medications could potentially be the cause of the onset of the disease."

Use and Cost Patterns of Antihypertensive Medications in the United States From 1996 to 2021.
(PubMed, Hypertension)
- "We explored the associations between patent exclusivity loss, per-pill costs, and Medicare Part D enactment on medication use over time, focusing on the most commonly used medications (lisinopril, amlodipine, losartan, hydrochlorothiazide, and metoprolol)...The increase in antihypertensive medication use over the past decades highlights the significant impact of loss of patent exclusivity on the uptake in the use of specific medications. These findings underscore the complexity of factors influencing medication use, beyond cost reductions alone, and suggest that policies need to consider multiple facets to effectively improve antihypertensive medication accessibility and utilization."

Severe Hypokalemia from Heavy Coffee/Cola Consumption Complicated by Rhabdomyolysis, Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus and Polyuria-Induced Hydronephrosis
(NKF-SCM 2024)
- "His medications were metformin, losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and amlodipine...One week later, amiloride was stopped when his serum K rose to 4.6 mEq/L... This case illustrates altered renal potassium handling and downstream effects resulting from heavy coffee/cola consumption. Na+/H+ exchanger downregulation by theophylline-mediated adenosine blockade increases distal Na delivery promoting kaliuresis. High urine flow activates flow-mediated BK channels further promoting kaliuresis."

Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4291 of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene is associated with the response to losartan treatment in hypertensive patients.
(PubMed, Mol Biol Rep)
- "Arterial hypertension is characterized by systolic pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and/or diastolic pressure ≥ 90 mmHg and its treatment consists of the use of antihypertensive drugs, as losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. In conclusion, the presence of the T allele of the rs4291 variant was associated to controled blood pressure when losartan was used as an antihypertensive agent. These results show the importance of pharmacogenetic studies to detect genetic characteristics, enabling therapeutic individuality and reducing costs for the healthcare system."
