Change in different classes of chronic back pain suspicious of axial spondyloarthritis: a latent transition analysis of the SPACE cohort.
(PubMed, RMD Open)
- "Transitions between the four classes over 2 years were basically inexistent, highlighting the unlikelihood of developing new class-defining features of axSpA after an initial clinical workup."

Evaluation of the mechanism of action of paracetamol, drotaverine, and peppermint oil and their effects in combination with hyoscine butylbromide on colonic motility: human ex-vivo study.
(PubMed, Front Pharmacol)
- "Drotaverine, paracetamol, and peppermint oil were tested alone and in combination with hyoscine butylbromide on (1) spontaneous contractility induced by isometric stretch (in the presence of 1 µM tetrodotoxin) and (2) contractility induced by 10-5 M carbachol and after (3) electrical field stimulation-induced selective stimulation of excitatory (in the presence of 1 mM Nω-nitro-L-arginine and 10 µM MRS2179) and (4) inhibitory (under non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic conditions) pathways. Peppermint oil is synergic with hyoscine butylbromide suggesting that a combination therapy may be more effective in treating patients. In contrast, at therapeutic concentrations, paracetamol does not modify colonic contractility, suggesting that the association of paracetamol and hyoscine butylbromide has independent analgesic and antispasmodic properties."

COULD THERE BE GENDER-SPECIFIC DISCRIMINATIVE FEATURES FOR AXIAL SPONDYLOARTHRITIS AND INFLAMMATORY BACK PAIN CHARACTERISTICS IN PARTICULAR?
(EULAR 2024)
- "In the evaluation of IBP characteristics, we found that improvement with exercise and alternating gluteal pain items of IBP were significantly higher in female axSpA patients in comparison with female nonSpA patients... The results of the present study showed that even in patients with IBP according to physician there could be some differentiating factors for the diagnosis of axSpA. Also our results revealed that gender might have an impact not only for the diagnosis axSpA but also IBP."

CHANGE OVER 2 YEARS IN DIFFERENT PHENOTYPES OF CHRONIC BACK PAIN SUSPICIOUS OF AXIAL SPONDYLOARTHRITIS: A LATENT TRANSITION ANALYSIS OF THE SPONDYLOARTHRITIS CAUGHT EARLY (SPACE) COHORT
(EULAR 2024)
- "Background: Sepriano et al have identified four phenotypes of chronic back pain suspicious of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) in the Spondyloarthritis Caught Early (SPACE) cohort, reflecting an expert-free judgement of the construct of axSpA.[1] They were labelled as: "pure axSpA" ("axial") representing individuals with positive axial imaging and a familial/genetic predisposition for axSpA; "axSpA with peripheral signs" ("IBP+peripheral") with participants characterized by peripheral involvement and inflammatory back pain (IBP), "axial Spondyloarthritis at risk" ("at risk"), a phenotype with a familial/genetic predisposition to axSpA but an otherwise low probability of other features and a "no Spondyloarthritis" ("no SpA") phenotype depicting participants with a very low probability for any SpA associated feature... Transitions between the four classes over two years were basically..."

Molecular Characterization of Methicillin-Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus, ST2867 Isolates Carrying Fusidic Acid Resistance Determinant fusB
(ASM Microbe 2024)
- " The isolates were resistant to fusidic acid (MIC:16-64 µg/ml ), penicillin G (n=37), erythromycin (n=28), tetracycline (n=2), and ciprofloxacin (n=2), and were positive for BlaZ, BlaI, BlaR, msr(A), tet(K)...No spa type was assigned for eight isolate... The study demonstrated the presence of a plasmid-mediated fusB in ST2867-MSSA isolates in different hospitals in Kuwait which highlights the carriage and transmission of antibiotic resistance in rare MSSA clones."

Pharmacotherapy for gastric and intestinal cramping pain: Current and emerging therapies.
(PubMed, Expert Opin Pharmacother)
- "Consensus dictates that antispasmodics such as hyoscine-N-butyl bromide and mebeverine should be the primary treatment for GICP...Currently, several antispasmodics are undergoing clinical trials, including drotaverine, alverine, pinaverium bromide, fenoverine, tiropramide, otilinium bromide, trimebutine, and peppermint oil...Recent studies have shown that fixed-dose combinations of antispasmodics + NSAIDs or two different antispasmodics can improve patient compliance and synergistically reduce GICP. Therefore, it is recommended that the global availability and accessibility of these products be enhanced."
