β2-Adrenergic Receptor Agonist Terbutaline Regulates Macrophage Polarization Via HMGB1 in Immune Thrombocytopenia
(ASH 2024)
- "Conclusions : Terbutaline could modulate abnormal macrophage polarization and inhibit macrophage phagocytosis toward platelets via HMGB1. To our knowledge, this is the first report indicating that terbutaline can effectively ameliorate thrombocytopenia by regulating macrophage polarization via HMGB1 in ITP."

Patients with asthma reminded of the increased risk of severe asthma attacks from overusing blue inhalers
(GOV.UK)
- "The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is reminding patients with asthma of the importance of using their preventer (anti-inflammatory) inhaler regularly as prescribed, and to avoid relying on their blue inhaler alone. This is because without regular use of a preventer inhaler, symptoms could worsen and increase the risk of severe asthma attacks. This reminder follows updates to product information and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance for short-acting beta 2 agonists (SABAs), including salbutamol and terbutaline, which are used to relieve sudden asthma symptoms such as chest tightness, wheezing, coughing and breathlessness."

Terbutaline for Management of Relative Bradycardia Post-Orthotopic Heart Transplant: A Single Center Experience.
(PubMed, Clin Transplant)
- "This study's overall low PPM placement rate suggests that early sinus node dysfunction can be treated with pharmacotherapy without committing to a permanent device, and that terbutaline can be used safely in early post-heart transplant recipients. If patients require long-term chronotropic support, the risk-benefit of PPM placement versus continued terbutaline should be considered."

Cooperation of aquaporin 5 and the adrenergic system in the initiation of birth in rat model.
(PubMed, Heliyon)
- "Pharmacological influence on AQP5 expression and uterine contraction was investigated by treatment with terbutaline (10 mg/kg, subcutaneously) and doxazosin (5 mg/kg, orally) in vivo; and mercuric chloride (HgCl2), in vitro...In conclusion, our findings elucidate the collaborative role of aquaporin 5 (AQP5) and adrenergic systems in the regulation of uterine contractions in late-pregnant rats. Our findings suggest this may be a good starting point for developing a new tocolytic therapy."

Prenatal broad-spectrum cannabidiol administration prevents an autism-like phenotype in male offspring from a maternal stress/terbutaline rat model.
(PubMed, Brain Behav Immun Health)
- "Broad-spectrum cannabidiol oil given during pregnancy decreased scores for all three ASD-related behavioral responses, resulting in an overall significant prevention of the ASD-like phenotype. These findings highlight the potential of broad-spectrum cannabidiol oil as a complementary and integrative approach for prevention of stressor-induced sequelae relevant to development of an ASD-like phenotype."

Terbutaline for Chronotropic Incompetence in Orthotopic Heart Transplant Recipients
(ATC 2024)
- "A bicaval anastomosis technique was used in 221 (96.5%) patients and 163 (71%) had amiodarone exposure within 90 days before transplant (Table 1)... To our knowledge, this is the largest study to date investigating oral terbutaline use post heart transplantation. Our overall PPM placement rate was low suggesting that early sinus node dysfunction can be treated with pharmacotherapy without committing to a PPM. We conclude that terbutaline can be used safely early post heart transplant."

metformin induced lactic acidosis in elderly patients
(EUSEM 2023)
- "metformin lactic acidosis is a rare complication and its formation is the result of a multifactorial process.we report the case of a 74-year-old patient, diabetic on metformin and janumet, hypertensionand heart rhythm disorder on antiarrhythmic; anticoagulant and beta-blocker.consulting the emergency room for deterioration of general condition for a month with diarrhea.arrived at the emergency room, the patient was conscious, polypneic with normal pulmonary ausculation and normal pulsed oxygen saturation, good hemodynamic constants contrasting with cyanosis of the extremities and HR at 60 bpm.Initial ECG showed bifascicular block at 60 (ECG1). afterwords ,the patient presented a bradycardia at 30 with wide QRS (ECG 2), we had time to take a blood gas which showed deep acidosis at 7.08with lactates at 8.4, hyperkalemia at 7.5 bicarbonates at 7 and hypocapnia at 26.while waiting for the results of the rest of the biology, a hyperkalemia corection protocol has been initiated..."

(PubMed, BMJ Case Rep)

Impact of Terbutaline on Hemodynamics Following Heart Transplantation [Board No. B284]
(ATC 2023)
- "Subgroup analyses were also conducted to determine if terbutaline dose and pre-transplant amiodarone use impacted the overall efficacy... Terbutaline is a safe and modestly effective therapy to treat sinus node dysfunction and bradyarrhythmias after heart transplantation. This analysis suggests that the use of terbutaline may allow for more rapid discontinuation or removal of pacing wires and titration of IV chronotropic agents. This, in turn, may facilitate more rapid transfer out of the ICU in patients experiencing sinus node dysfunction."

Inhaled Terbutaline Increases High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol
(ATS 2022)

Modulation of lipid metabolism by beta adrenergic agents has important implications in the potential induction (beta blocker) or therapy (beta agonist) of the metabolic syndrome, a condition partially defined by low HDLC levels, and is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk."
