Integration of microRNA and mRNA analyses depicts the potential roles of Momordica charantia saponin administration in insulin resistance of juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio) fed with a high-starch diet.
(PubMed, Front Mol Biosci)
- "This study identified 10 potential known miRNAs, namely, ccr-miR-10b, ccr-miR-122, ccr-miR-143, ccr-miR-146a, ccr-miR-155, ccr-miR-16c, ccr-miR-200a, ccr-miR-29a, ccr-miR-34, and ccr-miR-375, as candidates participating in modulating the liver insulin resistance...This study raised a presumption of the presence of ccr-miR-29a targeting pik3r1 or ccr-miR-143 targeting pik3r3 playing likely roles in Momordica charantia saponins remitting the liver insulin resistance. The findings will further deepen the understanding of the carbohydrate metabolism of common carp and provide an important scientific basis for the application of Momordica saponins as functional nutrients to alleviate insulin resistance of fish in fish culture."

RNA-Interference-Mediated miR-122-Based Gene Regulation in Colon Cancer, a Structural In Silico Analysis.
(PubMed, Int J Mol Sci)
- "In conclusions, the study has explored the role of miR-122 in CRC and has identified a closely related group of genes influencing the prognosis of CRC in multiple ways. Further, these genes prove to be targets of gene silencing through RNA interference and might serve as effective therapeutic targets in understanding and treating CRC."

Protective effect of hepatocyte-enriched lncRNA-Mir122hg by promoting hepatocyte proliferation in acute liver injury.
(PubMed, Exp Mol Med)
- "Consistent with the results of gene enrichment analysis, Mir122hg binding to C/EBPα affected its transcriptional repression, promoted gene transcription of downstream chemokines, Cxcl2, Cxcl3, and Cxcl5, and exerted pro-proliferative effects on hepatocytes through activation of the AKT/GSK-3β/p27 signaling pathway by CXC/CXCR2 complexes. This study identifies a novel lncRNA with protective effects in acute liver injury and demonstrates that the binding of Mir122hg-C/EBPα promotes hepatocyte proliferation via upregulation of CXC chemokine and activation of AKT signaling."

Mn-SOD alleviates methotrexate-related hepatocellular injury via GSK-3β affecting anti-oxidative stress of HO-1 and Drp1.
(PubMed, Zhong Nan Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban)
- "MTX may induce hepatocyte damage, and one of the mechanisms may be due to the decrease of intracellular Mn-SOD level, which can cause the accumulation of superoxide, affect the levels of HO-1 and Drp1 through GSK-3β leading to mitochondrial damage and cell apoptosis. High expression of Mn-SOD intracellularly through exogenous introduction can scavenge drug-produced superoxide, affect HO-1 and Drp1 levels through GSK-3β, activate mitochondria, protect cells against damage from oxidative stress, and inhibit hepatocyte apoptosis eventually. So exogenous introduction of SOD may be a potential therapeutic approach to block or reverse MTX-related hepatocyte injury."

Cancer-cell-secreted extracellular vesicles suppress insulin secretion through miR-122 to impair systemic glucose homeostasis and contribute to tumour growth.
(PubMed, Nat Cell Biol)
- "Compared with non-cancer controls, patients with BC have higher levels of circulating EV-encapsulated miR-122 and fasting glucose concentrations but lower fasting insulin; miR-122 levels are positively associated with glucose and negatively associated with insulin. Therefore, EV-mediated impairment of whole-body glycaemic control may contribute to tumour progression and incidence of type 2 diabetes in some patients with BC."

[VIRTUAL] MESENCHYMAL STEM CELL-DERIVED EXOSOMES PROMOTE HEPATOCYTE REGENERATION IN ACUTE LIVER FAILURE
(AASLD 2020)
- "MSC-derived exosomes can improve the prognosis of acute liver failure by promoting hepatocyte proliferation and reducing apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. The function of regulating hepatocyte regeneration may be mediated by miR-122, miR-146a, and miR-let-7 family."

LncRNA MALAT1 knockdown alleviates oxygen-glucose deprivation and reperfusion induced cardiomyocyte apoptotic death by regulating miR-122.
(PubMed, Exp Mol Pathol)
- "Our finding revealed protective effects of MALAT1 knockdown on OGD/R induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis. MALAT1 exerted its function possibly through regulating AKT/GSK-3β/β-catenin signaling through up-regulating miR-122."
