Trefoil factor 2 interacts with A4GNT to regulate inflammation to protect against pneumonia during influenza virus infection.
(PubMed, iScience)
- "Finally, we have conclusively verified that the protective effect of TFF2 relies on the TFF2-A4GNT-glycan axis during influenza virus infection. In the future, TFF2 may offer a potential intervention strategy for acute respiratory inflammatory diseases."

A fusion protein approach to integrate antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities for developing new therapeutics against influenza A virus infection.
(PubMed, Antiviral Res)
- "Together, our study provided evidence supporting that, by possessing antiviral activity conferred by IFNα2 with complementation from TFF2 in suppressing the inflammatory side effects, the fusion proteins, particularly TIF, represent more effective agents against influenza and other respiratory viral infections than IFNα2 or TFF2 alone. It implies that merging two molecules with complementary functions holds potential for developing novel therapeutics against viral infections."

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase I trial of inhalation treatment of recombinant TFF2-IFN protein: A multifunctional candidate for the treatment of COVID-19.
(PubMed, Front Pharmacol)
- " In this study, the recombinant TFF2-IFN protein was a well-tolerated and safe therapeutic when administered by nebulization, characterized by prolonged retention in the respiratory tract, which would be greatly beneficial in combating respiratory viral infection. Systematic Review Registration: [http://www.chictr.org.cn], identifier [ChiCTR2000035633]."
