Retrospective Evaluation of the Incidence of Cystic Echinococcosis in Humans Between 2012-2023 in Pakistan.
(PubMed, Turkiye Parazitol Derg)
- "All patients received albendazole anthelminthic medication after their surgical procedures...Lack of knowledge and dedicated work on behalf of public healthcare and veterinarians to control CE pose a challenge in Pakistan. A lot of research and strong management programs are required to combat the disease."

Pharmacological evaluation on benzimidazole anthelmintics for eradication of the gill fluke Microcotyle sebastis infesting a black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii.
(PubMed, Vet Parasitol)
- "This study comprehensively evaluated the in vitro and in vivo anthelmintic efficacy and pharmacokinetics of four benzimidazole compounds: febantel (FB), fenbendazole (FBZ), albendazole (ABZ), and mebendazole (MBZ) against the gill fluke Microcotyle sebastis in cultured black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii). These findings highlight ABZ as the most efficacious compound, with FB showing promise through metabolic conversion to FBZ, and MBZ demonstrating limited efficacy due to poor absorption and rapid inactivation. Overall, this study provides an integrated evaluation of both efficacy and pharmacokinetics, indicating that ABZ and FB are effective candidates for managing M. sebastis infections in aquaculture."

Critical dysregulated signaling pathways in drug resistance: highlighting the repositioning of mebendazole for cancer therapy.
(PubMed, Front Pharmacol)
- "Mebendazole (MBZ), albendazole, flubendazole, and oxfendazole are broad-spectrum anti-helminthic drugs from the benzimidazole family. While the anticancer effects of MBZ are encouraging, further research is needed before it can be used clinically. Extensive data from in vitro, in vivo, and clinical trials support MBZ's anticancer potential and highlight the need for innovative delivery methods, including polymeric nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid formulations, micelles, nanosuspensions, and beyond."

Anthelmintic resistance against gastrointestinal nematodes: an emerging threat in cattle farms in Bangladesh.
(PubMed, J Parasit Dis)
- "For FECRT, four groups having ten animals in each group were designed and animals of group I were treated with albendazole (ABZ), group II with levamisole (LEV), group III with ivermectin (IVM) according to the bodyweight and group IV was served as control (untreated). In EHA, the EC50 value of ABZ ranged from 0.14 to 0.29 µg ABZ/ml (> 0.1 µg/ml designated as resistance) with the coefficient of correlation (R2) > 0.97 confirming ABZ resistance in all cattle farms. The present study suggests that AR is increasing and creates an alarming condition in controlling GI nematodes in Bangladesh."

Endoscopy in the Diagnosis of Anemia
(ACG 2025)
- "The treatment of choice for hookworm infection is albendazole (400mg) or mebendazole (500mg) administered orally for 3 days for maximum effectiveness, with iron and nutritional support. This case demonstrates the necessity to suspect hookworm infection in IDA patients even when stool tests are negative and shows how prevention efforts fail to address zoonotic transmission. The control of soil-transmitted helminthiasis requires regular deworming programs together with veterinary interventions in areas where the disease is endemic and to prevent its long term morbidity calls for public health strategies that combine education with sanitation improvements and multisectoral collaboration.Figure: Parasitic worm located in the descending part of the second part of duodenum.Figure: Parasitic worms located in the ampullary region of the second part of duodenum."

A Squirmy Surprise: Enterobiasis vermicularis Treatment in Pregnancy
(ACG 2025)
- "Pyrantel pamoate is preferred to albendazole and mebendazole due to poor systemic absorption limiting fetal exposure. In order to prevent reinfection, hygienic measures should be implemented to include washing bedsheets, fingernail clipping and, frequent handwashing. Due to the endemic nature of pinworms and their potential complications, physicians need greater awareness and understanding on treatment in pregnancy.Figure: Pinworm in rectumFigure: Pinworm in sigmoid colon"

Ventricular Neurocysticercosis Presenting as Hydrocephalus: A Treatment Experience Sharing.
(PubMed, J Craniofac Surg)
- "Endoscopic third ventriculostomy with Ommaya reservoir placement was performed, followed by combined albendazole-praziquantel therapy. Complete symptom resolution was achieved at 2-month follow-up. This case highlights: (1) CSF NGS as a crucial diagnostic tool when histology is unattainable, (2) the efficacy of combined antiparasitic therapy, and (3) the dual role of Ommaya reservoirs in managing hydrocephalus and treatment-related complications."

Imaging using sonography, CT with contrast enhancement, or MRI plays a key role as a diagnostic tool, although CT may have limitations. The serological detection of antigens or antibodies plays only a minor role."

Beyond the Bloodstream: Gastrointestinal Involvement in Idiopathic Hyper-Eosinophilic Syndrome
(ACG 2025)
- "A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis showed dilated, fluid-filled loops of the small bowel, multiple thickened small bowel loops, ascites, and small bilateral pleural effusions.Despite empiric treatment with albendazole initiated by the infectious disease team, her eosinophil count continued to rise. She exhibited a dramatic decrease in WBC count from 42 (79% eosinophils) in the morning to 17 (65.8% eosinophils) by the afternoon, and further to 11 (2.4% eosinophils) the following day, with marked improvement in her symptoms. The patient was then transitioned to a tapering dose of steroids, along with an antihistamine, an H2 blocker, and an anti-IL-5 antibody. Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is diagnosed when hypereosinophilia is accompanied by tissue damage and other potential causes of eosinophilia or tissue damage are excluded.HES with primary gastrointestinal eosinophilic diseases (EGIDs) is rare, with only 34 reported cases.we report a 25-year-old female with..."
