MANAGEMENT OF SEVERE HYPERTHYROIDISM IN HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS
(WRMC 2026)
- "Propranolol, atenolol and metoprolol were considered equipotent. In summary, published HR targets were often not achieved at discharge, and most discharge β-blocker doses were well below the maximum doses (150-200 mg/d) recommended in ATA guidelines. recurrent HT was frequent among pts whose primary treatment was ATDs or who received RAI or Tx >1m after discharge. In conclusion, 1) β blockade was frequently inadequate for HR control on discharge, and 2) recurrent HT in hospitalized pts with severe HT is common unless definitive treatment with surgery or RAI is undertaken within 1m of discharge."

Granule size-dependent biotransformation of organic micropollutants in aerobic granular sludge under different bioconversion conditions.
(PubMed, J Hazard Mater)
- "Eight OMPs (sulfamethoxazole, atenolol, furosemide, benzotriazole, trimethoprim, diclofenac, metoprolol, and gabapentin) showed biotransformation efficiencies above 10 % under at least one condition. This study is the first to assess OMP biotransformation across AGS size fractions, highlighting the combined effects of granule size and bioconversion conditions. The findings provide insights for optimizing AGS systems, including potential granule size adjustments, to enhance OMP biotransformation and reduce environmental impacts."

Case Report: Transient myocardial thickening in a cat secondary to acute cholangiohepatitis.
(PubMed, Front Vet Sci)
- "Atenolol was added to the outpatient medical management for cholangiohepatitis, consisting of broad-spectrum antimicrobials, hepatoprotectants, and antiemetic/gastroprotective agents. Over the course of 84 days, five follow-up evaluations were performed, during which hepatic values normalized, cTnI and NT-proBNP returned to reference ranges, and myocardial dimensions and vertebral heart score normalized. Unlike most reports in which TMT is identified after congestive signs develop, this case was recognized earlier, on the basis of an abrupt biomarker surge during apparent clinical improvement."

Systematic Identification and Recognition Analysis of Beta1-Adrenergic Receptor Targeting Material Basis in Tibetan Medicine Formula Bawei Chenxiang Powder.
(PubMed, J Mol Recognit)
- "So, in this work, we engineered a fusion protein by linking the kinase domain of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) to the C-terminus of β1-AR, which was subsequently immobilized onto the ibrutinib-modified silica gels. Following column preparation by packing the β1-AR immobilized silica into a stainless-steel column, the specificity and stability of β1-AR column were evaluated through the retention behavior analysis of atenolol, esmolol, and metoprolol for characterization...These confirmed the reliability of the screened compounds by the immobilized β1-AR. To our knowledge, this work establishes the first systematic identification of BWCP's bioactive components targeting β1-AR, providing a pharmacological foundation for developing novel cardiovascular therapeutics derived from this traditional formulation."

2-(4-Hy-droxy-phen-yl)acetamide.
(PubMed, IUCrdata)
- "In the extended structure, N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds organize mol-ecules into stacks propagating along [100], with additional hydrogen bonding linking neighboring parallel stacks. A survey of known structures indicates that the structures of 2-phenyl-acetamide mol-ecules with any substitution at the 4-position on the phenyl ring can demonstrate different orientations for the acetamide group ranging from the -NH2 group directed almost completely outward to the -NH2 group directed almost completely inward."

Fate, chlorination kinetics, and comprehensive risk assessment of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in drinking water distribution systems.
(PubMed, J Contam Hydrol)
- "Four compounds (atenolol, sulpiride, paroxetine, and nadolol) exhibited pseudo-first-order kinetics with residual chlorine, while the others exhibited significant resistance to chlorination...Ecological risk assessment revealed ibuprofen posed a moderate ecological risk, a risk quotient (RQ) of 0.335, while triclocarban presented a high ecological risk (RQ = 4.6031)...Among the detected PPCPs, meclofenamic acid was identified as the compound of highest concern, with average relative risk indices exceeding >10-4. These findings provide critical insights into the fate and transformation of PPCPs in drinking water systems and offer scientific guidance for optimizing treatment processes and risk management strategies."

Investigation of the aggregation and assembly mechanisms of trace organic compounds and dissolved organic matter using a combined approach of molecular dynamics simulations and experiments.
(PubMed, J Environ Manage)
- "Four scenarios (Sce) were designed: (i) Sce-1 including atenolol (ATL) and DOM; (ii) Sce-2 including ATL, sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), carbamazepine (CBZ) and DOM; (iii) Sce-3 with the same composition as Sce-1 under an electric field; and (iv) Sce-4 excluding tannic acid (TAN) and humic acid (HA). Fluorescence analysis showed 25.8 % peak intensity reduction. Electric fields disrupt clusters and enhance oxidant-mediated TrOC removal, while pre-removing of bridging molecules reduces cluster size for efficient elimination."

Capillary blood microsampling and LC-Orbitrap analysis for adherence monitoring of cardiovascular drugs: method development, cross-validation, and patient proof-of-concept using VAMS and Capitainer-B.
(PubMed, Talanta)
- "Amlodipine, atenolol, atorvastatin, bisoprolol, carvedilol, clopidogrel, diltiazem, lercanidipine, metoprolol, nebivolol, prasugrel, rosuvastatin, salicylic acid, simvastatin hydroxy acid, and verapamil were included. In a proof-of-concept involving 30 patients, finger-prick concentrations from VAMS and Capitainer-B were interchangeable, supporting the suitability of these adherence workflows but reference ranges for capillary blood remain necessary to enable routine clinical interpretation. In summary, this work established a reliable, LC-Orbitrap-based microsampling platform for monitoring adherence and identified stability issued amongst others that guide future method selection and development."

Different beta-blockers for preventing arrhythmic events in patients with long QT syndrome: a network meta-analysis.
(PubMed, Front Med (Lausanne))
- "In LQT1, nadolol was superior to propranolol (RR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.39-0.90) and had the highest probability of being the optimal treatment (SUCRA = 0.92). In LQT2 patients, nadolol not only shows a superiority trend but also has a significant dose-effect relationship, supporting its clinical priority; in LQT3 patients, nadolol exhibits a significant dose-dependent risk reduction trend, though no statistically significant differences in efficacy were observed among all beta-blockers. Additionally, LQT3 patients should be cautious of the potential risks associated with atenolol."

Chronic stress promotes pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma progression via complement C5a-recruited myeloid-derived suppressor cells.
(PubMed, Cancer Immunol Immunother)
- "The effect was abrogated by the C5aR1 antagonist PMX-53, identifying C5a as a critical mediator of MDSC accumulation. Intervention with the ADRB1 antagonist atenolol in PDAC mice significantly reduced serum/tumoral C5a levels, diminished splenic/intratumoral MDSCs proportions, and attenuated tumor growth. Our findings propose that targeting the SNS-driven complement-MDSCs axis represents a promising strategy for PDAC patients."

Warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia following epstein-barr virus reactivation: An uncommon clinical association
(ASH 2025)
- "His only medications were atenolol and atorvastatin, and he denied use of herbal supplements or over-the-counter drugs... Warm AIHA is most commonly idiopathic but can also occur secondary to various conditions, including rheumatologic diseases (e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus), chronic lymphoblastic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, certain medications (e.g., cephalosporins, piperacillin), and infections...Initial corticosteroid therapy varies widely during the first 72 hours, ranging from 1–2 mg/kg of prednisone every 8–12 hours to high-dose intravenous methylprednisolone (250–1000 mg/day)...In cases refractory to steroids, additional therapies such as mycophenolate mofetil or sirolimus may be considered. This case highlights a rare presentation of warm AIHA likely triggered by EBV reactivation, an association that is infrequently reported in the literature."
