A novel molecularly imprinted 3D COF-based magnetic solid-phase extraction combined with UHPLC-MS/MS to detect trace residues of acyclovir, penciclovir and ganciclovir in animal-derived food.
(PubMed, Food Chem)
- "Afterwards, a MSPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed, which stands out as the most sensitive approach yet for ACV, PCV, GCV measurements and has been successfully applied to analyze thirteen ready-to-eat chicken samples. Endogenous PCV was detected in two of these samples, demonstrating the potential of the proposed method as a valuable tool for monitoring antiviral drug residues and ensuring food safety."

Acyclovir-Induced Nephrotoxicity: A Case Report.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "This case highlights the importance of close monitoring in patients receiving acyclovir, particularly those at an increased risk of nephrotoxicity. To ensure early detection and intervention, it is crucial to perform regular renal function assessments, especially within the first 48 hours of treatment."

A Case of Extramedullary Plasmacytoma Involving the Pancreas
(ACG 2025)
- "The patient began systemic treatment with daratumumab, lenalidomide, aspirin, acyclovir, and dexamethasone. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) of the pancreas is rare and often appears similar to pancreatic adenocarcinoma, typically causing jaundice and abdominal pain. Early and accurate diagnosis can lead to more effective treatment, reducing unnecessary surgeries and significantly improving outcomes.Figure: Pancreatic biopsy shows predominant population of atypical plasma cells that are CD138 positive: Hematoxylin and Eosin staining, magnification x 40 and x100. Sub-150 nm drug nanocrystals produced using a milligram-scale media mill.
(PubMed, Int J Pharm)
- "Three model drugs (itraconazole, acyclovir, and amphotericin B) were processed under optimised conditions. Similarly, zeta potential measurements showed no significant differences between scales. Overall, the Mini Mill achieved an 85 % reduction in drug consumption without compromising key formulation attributes, positioning it as a practical and cost-effective tool for the early development of NCs-based formulations."

Infection Prophylaxis in CAR T-Cell Therapy
(ICBMT 2025)
- "NCCN and ASTCT guidelines support the use of acyclovir 400 mg PO twice daily or valacyclovir 500 mg PO twice daily for at least six months after CAR T infusion and until CD4 T -cell counts exceed 200/µL. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) management should include entecavir or tenofovir for at least 12 months in HBsAg -positive patients and longer if immunosuppression persists; anti -HBc–positive/HBsAg -negative patients may receive prophylaxis or undergo monthly HBV DNA monitoring...Alternatives include atovaquone 1500 mg daily, dapsone 100 mg daily (after G6PD testing), or monthly aerosolized pe ntamidine for those with sulfa allergy or intolerance. Fungal Fluconazole is recommended during periods of neutropenia until neutrophil recovery. High -risk patients — those with pre -infusion neutropenia, prior invasive fungal infection within six months, prior allo -HCT, grade ≥3 CRS/ICANS, or prolonged high -dose cortic osteroids (>72 h) —should receive mould -active..."

Nephrotoxicity and kidney outcomes in pediatric oncology patients.
(PubMed, Nephrol Dial Transplant)
- "Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common in children with cancer and is strongly associated with an increased risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Awareness is crucial for high-risk patients, particularly those receiving nephrotoxic medications, with a history of multiple AKI episodes or a prior nephrectomy. Comprehensive monitoring strategies should be implemented at diagnosis, during therapy, and during the post-treatment period to enable early detection and timely intervention, ultimately reducing the risk of AKI and its progression to CKD."

Comparative Case Series of Herpes Zoster in Older Immunocompromised Chinese Adults: Clinical, Immunological, and Treatment Profiles in Four Cases Over 60.
(PubMed, Infect Drug Resist)
- "Selected for their immunocompromised status and prior antiviral failure or renal concerns, patients received oral brivudine (125 mg once daily) with or without intravenous acyclovir, with outcomes assessed via clinical examination, pain scores, and laboratory monitoring over 7-14 days. Compared to previous use of other antivirals, brivudine was better tolerated and did not require renal dose adjustment. In summary, brivudine appears to be a promising option for elderly immunocompromised patients with herpes zoster, offering effective viral control, favorable safety, and improved clinical outcomes."

Impact of kidney function on 200 days of antiviral prophylaxis for cytomegalovirus disease in CMV-seronegative recipients of CMV-seropositive donor kidneys Post hoc analysis of a randomized, phase 3 trial of letermovir versus valganciclovir prophylaxis.
(PubMed, Am J Transplant)
- P3 | "Adult CMV D+R- KTRs were randomized (1:1) post-transplant to letermovir 480 mg (with acyclovir and valganciclovir placebo) or valganciclovir 900 mg (with acyclovir and letermovir placebos) daily for 28-weeks (NCT03443869). In CMV D+R- KTRs, letermovir prophylaxis was associated with less CMV DNAemia compared to valganciclovir in participants with low kidney function during the 200-day prophylaxis period. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03443869, EudraCT: 2017-001055-30."

Charting the Neurotropism of Human Parvovirus B19 and Encephalitis: A Systematic Review of Existing Literature of 25 Years.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "Acyclovir and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) constituted the most common medications utilized, 13.01% each. Improvement was seen in 80.72% (67) after treatment. In light of recent publications, the shift in the trend of parvovirus B19 toward the central nervous system (CNS) is alarming. Despite limited information, the site of brain parenchymal involvement (parietal lobe, cerebellar hemispheres, corpus callosum, frontal lobe, and ventricles) and specific radiological findings such as hyperintensity on DWI and T2-weighted images, along with CSF PCR positivity and neurological symptoms, can point toward parvovirus encephalitis."

Biological evaluation and molecular docking studies of novel aza-acyclic nucleosides as putative antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant agents.
(PubMed, BMC Chem)
- "This study aimed to synthesize new aza-acyclic nucleosides (aza-acyclovir) and evaluate the efficacy of these synthetic compounds as potential antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant agents...Despite exhibiting lower radical scavenging activity than ascorbic acid (an antioxidant compound used as a standard), Compound 1 from the novel synthetic aza-acyclic nucleosides showed a higher reduction capacity, which was dose-dependent. Overall, we report newly synthesized compounds that show promising antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant effects."

Decrease in SinglePlex Viral PCRs Use and acyclovir utilization following implementation of The BioFire Meningitis/Encephalitis Panel at A Tertiary Care Cancer Center.
(PubMed, J Clin Virol Plus)
- "In the post-intervention period, the number of targeted viral tests was reduced by 64.9 % (703 to 247 PCRs), and the total number of patients treated with acyclovir was reduced by 29.1 % (82 patients vs 45 patients) with a reduction in the duration of therapy from 7.33 days to 4.47 days in the post-intervention period (p < 0.0274). The implementation of the M/E panel contributed to a reduction in the number of singleplex PCR tests performed and a reduction in the utilization and duration of acyclovir therapy in our cancer patient population."
