The Concomitant Therapy of Direct Oral Anticoagulants with Amiodarone in Atrial Fibrillation: A Meta-analysis.
(PubMed, J Cardiovasc Pharmacol Ther)
- "No significant differences in stroke or systemic embolism were found between the two groups (OR 0.86; 95% CI 0.74, 1.00; P = .05; I2 = 34%).Conclusion and RelevanceThe concomitant therapy of amiodarone and DOACs did not significantly increase the bleeding risks or decrease the risk of stroke or systemic embolism compared to the DOAC monotherapy. The drug-drug interactions between amiodarone and DOACs may not be clinically significant."

THYROTOXICOSIS WITH PROLONGED CARDIAC EFFECT DUE TO EXCESS LIOTHYRONINE CONSUMPTION 'OVER THE COUNTER': A CASE REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POLICY MAKERS
(PubMed, Harefuah)
- "Liothyronine consumption has been associated with substantial thyrotoxicosis and cardiac damage. The Liothyronine tablets were provided to the patient by an unauthorized party, as a weight losing nutritional supplement. However, this was done without a medical examination or indication. The increase in demand for "weight-losing" products 'over the counter', the lack of effective enforcement in the chain, the way these products are presented and the possibility of those who are not authorized to market and supply them, emphasize the need to settle the regulation of this issue as soon as possible."

ATRIAL FIBRILLATION PREVALENCE AND ITS MANAGEMENT IN THE AGING TRANSFUSION-DEPENDENT BETA-THALASSEMIA
(EHA 2025)
- "Amiodarone was the most widely used drug... This is the first study evaluating AF prevalence and its management in β-TDT. AF is a clinically relevant issue in thalassemia pts with a prevalence higher than the general population. Also, stroke prevalence in this cohort is higher than in the thalassemia population in general, and the CHA2DS2-VASc score presents some limitations."

Antiarrhythmic drug use in atrial fibrillation among different European countries - as determined by a physician survey.
(PubMed, Int J Cardiol Heart Vasc)
- "However, while amiodarone was frequently (88-93 %) used in heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, it was also a typical treatment choice for minimal/no-structural heart disease (SHD) (28 %), particularly in UK...Sotalol (16-41 %) and dronedarone use (10-54 %) in CAD varied among countries...Despite recognizing the importance of guidelines, deviations in AAD use were common with the potential to compromise patient safety. These findings indicate the need for more educational support for optimal AAD selection in AF management."

Gender Disparities in cardiovascular outcomes among patients with Sarcoid Myocarditis: A retrospective cohort study
(EULAR 2025)
- "We employed propensity score matching for age at the time of the index event, race/ethnicity, comorbidities (diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, chronic kidney disease (CKD), tobacco use, chronic rheumatic heart disease, acute rheumatic fever, sarcoidosis of lung, overweight and obesity), medications (aspirin, statins, methotrexate, azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, and rituximab) resulting in 3,338 patients in each cohort... Before propensity matching, the female cohort was noted to have higher rates of diabetes (24.6% versus (vs) 22.4%), obesity (30.3% vs 22.4%), and methotrexate use (13.7% vs 9.8%), while males had more CKD (17.1 vs 14.2%) and amiodarone use (12.7% vs 7.3%)... Our study suggests that females with sarcoid myocarditis have a lower risk of mortality, major cardiovascular events, heart failure, and arrhythmias. Additional research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms that could contribute to the gender disparities in sarcoid..."

Plasmapheresis as a Life-Saving Intervention in Amiodarone-Induced Thyroid Storm
(ERA 2025)
- "Amiodarone was discontinued, thiamazole and prednisolone were started...Postoperatively, the patient recovered without complications and was transitioned to lifelong levothyroxine therapy... This case highlights the efficacy of plasmapheresis in managing refractory AIT, particularly in patients with critically thyrotoxicosis and severe clinical instability. Plasmapheresis offers rapid hormonal control by removing protein-bound thyroid hormones, bridging the gap between medical therapy and surgical intervention. Early recognition and initiation of plasmapheresis in high-risk patients, especially when standard therapies fail to control symptoms, could improve outcomes and reduce morbidity associated with AITS."

Stellate ganglion block: the future treatment for electrical cardiac storms – case report

SGB is an effective, minimally invasive and with low risk of complications technique for recurrent VT/VF. Currently, it's not included in the guidelines, with the potential to be part of the treatment for refractory VT/VF[1,2]."

The phenomena of arrhythmia-induced cardiomyopathies (AICM): what comes first, the chicken or the egg?
(Euroanaesthesia 2025)
- "Consequently, a therapy with amiodarone and beta blocker was gradually designed to control the arrhythmic pattern. After the decrease of heart rate, we continued to treat the heart failure with beta blocker carvedilol, digoxin, ACE inhibitor and diuretics...Even if the causative arrhythmia is apparent, the clarification of a cause-effect relationship sometimes provokes a diagnostic "headache" for the treating physician, since diagnosis may be confirmed only retrospectively. Raising awareness of the difficulties of diagnosis and all available treatment options is essential for a better management of dysrhythmia in children."

Predicting drug-drug interactions and optimal dosing of betrixaban with physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling in patients with renal impairment who were coadministered with P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
(PubMed, J Int Med Res)
- "ObjectiveTo optimize dosing adjustments in patients with renal impairment who were coadministered with P-glycoprotein inhibitors-verapamil or amiodarone-using a physiologically based pharmacokinetic model.MethodsThe developed physiologically based pharmacokinetic model was corroborated using previously reported pharmacokinetic parameters across multiple doses, ratio values in drug-drug interactions, and pharmacokinetic ratio values in patients with renal impairment.ResultsThe physiologically based pharmacokinetic model exhibited fold errors between 0.7 and 1.3 and effectively illustrated changes in pharmacokinetic ratios in patients with renal impairment. For patients with severe renal impairment, it may be reasonable to avoid concurrent use of betrixaban with P-glycoprotein inhibitors.ConclusionsThe coadministration of P-glycoprotein inhibitors elevates the exposure of betrixaban and may heighten the risk of major bleeding. Reduced dosing regimens are recommended for..."
