Kounis Syndrome after Oral Amoxicillin Clavulanate.
(PubMed, Int J Appl Basic Med Res)
- "Electrocardiogram (ECG) showed ST segment changes along with elevated troponin I. Suspecting Kounis syndrome, she was administered pheniramine maleate, hydrocortisone, and oral antiplatelets along with intravenous fluids. She recovered completely and was discharged after 48 h. This case highlights coronary vasospasm during an ongoing allergic reaction and its management with antihistamines, steroids, and antiplatelet drugs. Nebulized adrenaline was safely given with ECG monitoring for airway edema."

Evaluation of the pain level felt by patients during intramuscular injection in the emergency department and the pain-drug relationship
(EUSEM 2024)
- "When the two groups were compared in terms of age and pain score, no statistically significant difference was detected between the groups (p : 0.233, p : 0.284).The most common drug administrations to the patients participating were diclofenac sodium 221 (77%), dexketoprofen 35 (12.2%), pheniramine maleate 24 (8.4%) and others 7 (2.4%). Conclusions : When the relationship between diclofenac and dexketoprofen active substance agents, which are frequently preferred in the treatment of pain by intramuscular injection in our country's emergency departments, and pain, we found that patients who received dexketoprofen felt more pain. We determined that the patient's breath holding during the im injection application had no effect on the pain score."

Interventions for postburn pruritus.
(PubMed, Cochrane Database Syst Rev)

The First Case Report of 12-Step 3-Bag Successful Rapid Drug Desensitization to Daratumumab in a Patient with Renal Failure Due to Secondary Systemic Amyloid and Plasma Cell Dyscrasia
(EAACI 2024)
- "Peroral premedication with 1 mg/kg methylprednisolone, 40 mg famotidine, 10 mg montelukast, and 10 mg loratadine 72 hours before RDD, plus 1 mg/kg methylprednisolone, 45.5 mg pheniramine maleate, and 1000 mg paracetamol 30 minutes before RDD were administered. Our case reports the first 12-step 3-bag RDD experience applied to a multiple myeloma case diagnosed with secondary systemic amyloidosis and renal failure. Even if the drug hypersensitivity reaction is IgE/non-IgE mediated, RDD should be tried if alternative/superior treatment is not available."

Considering the aforementioned aspects and also the peculiarities of childhood, we recommend that self-treatment be conducted only after consulting a health specialist."

Comparative Assessment of Hypersensitivity Reactions on Use of Latex and Nitrile Gloves Among General Dental Practitioners: A Cross-Sectional Study.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "Among 356 participants 175 showed symptoms by the use of both latex and nitrile gloves, out of which 85.14% showed allergy to latex and 14.85% to nitrile gloves. All 175 individuals showed type IV hypersensitivity, and none of them showed type I. Conclusion Latex gloves are not the only option for dentists who experience itching when wearing gloves; they can also use powered-free latex gloves and nitrile gloves or take precautions such as not using oil-based cream, washing their hands, or taking pharmaceuticals such as cetirizine, pheniramine maleate, etc. However, when symptoms worsen and include erythema, swelling, wheezing, and in some cases, anaphylactic shock may occur they tend to use alternative gloves."

Insulin Desensitization as an Effective Solution to Human Insulin Hypersensitivity and Its Associated Insulin Resistance
(EAACI 2022)
- "Prior to this RDD, the patient had shown an apparently relative resistance to insulin injections, where RBS was constantly very high not responding to insulin injections properly even while accompanied with pheniramine maleate injections... To our knowledge, this is the first insulin rapid desensitization case in Egypt. Human insulin RDD using CSII is a safe and effective method to manage insulin hypersensitivity, DKA and abolish the associated insulin resistance. Insulin RDD is a very challenging procedure due to the restriction of using corticosteroids to control breakthrough reactions."

Patient-Reported Symptoms Associated with Over-the-Counter Allergy Eye Drops
(ASCRS-ASOA 2022)
- "The Purpose of this work was to evaluate a patient’s perceived ocular comfort after application of topical 0.7% olopatadine compared to 0.035% ketotifen fumarate or 0.3% pheniramine maleate/0.025% naphazoline hydrochloride. Both studies found that participants were numerically more likely to report that they strongly preferred or preferred 0.7% olopatadine over the comparison drops for all Likert symptoms evaluated except for vision fluctuation/blur, which was similar between 0.7% olopatadine and 0.3% pheniramine maleate. Conclusion Topical 0.7% olopatadine appears to be more comfortable and result in less ocular symptoms than 0.035% ketotifen fumarate or 0.3% pheniramine maleate, which suggests that patients may be more likely to comply with topical 0.7% olopatadine than its common market competitors."
