Fulminant Macrolide-Resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae Pneumonia in a Young Adult: A Case Report.
(PubMed, Cureus)
- "Despite repeated negative rapid antigen tests for M. pneumoniae, the patient was suspected of having MRMP pneumonia based on the Japanese Respiratory Society (JRS) scoring system and bilateral pneumonia resistant to amoxicillin/clavulanate and azithromycin, which led to the administration of levofloxacin infusion. Hydrocortisone was administered as treatment for severe CAP...The diagnosis and treatment strategy resulted in early improvement. This case highlights the diagnostic approach for MRMP and the clinical course of severe ARDS associated with MRMP."

Thyroid Abscess Following Influenza Infection
(ATA 2025)
- "She was treated with intravenous ampicillin/sulbactam which was transitioned to oral amoxicillin/clavulanate, to complete a 10 day course of antibiotics. A potential risk factor for her thyroid abscess was impaired immune function given the recent infection. Our case highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of acute thyroiditis and the consideration of abscess formation in healthy individuals during transient, immunocompromised states."

Recurrent breast abscess caused by Lawsonella clevelandensis: A case report and literature review.
(PubMed, Medicine (Baltimore))
- "The clinical manifestations of Lawsonella clevelandensis infection are similar to those of other acid-fast bacilli (e.g., Nocardia and Mycobacterium tuberculosis), potentially leading to misdiagnosis and mistreatment, thereby delaying resolution of the condition. The methods used for treating infections by bacterial pathogens differ significantly, as do the prognoses, indicating the importance of precise diagnosis. Lawsonella clevelandensis should be included in the differential diagnosis of infections caused by acid-fast bacteria. Due to the extreme difficulty in culturing this bacterium in vitro, gene sequencing is used primarily for diagnosis. Overall, the prognosis of patients with Lawsonella clevelandensis infection is good. Timely debridement and drainage, combined with antibiotic treatment, can usually lead to a cure."

False equivalence: differences in the in vitro activity of ampicillin-sulbactam and amoxicillin-clavulanate in several Enterobacterales species.
(PubMed, JAC Antimicrob Resist)
- "Isolates of E. coli, K. pneumoniae group and P. mirabilis with susceptibility profiles consistent with ESBL production (ceftriaxone resistant and cefoxitin susceptible) were more likely to be susceptible to AMC but not susceptible to SAM than isolates without this susceptibility phenotype (E. coli, 38% versus 27%, P < 0.0001; K. pneumoniae group: 40% versus 10%, P < 0.0001; P. mirabilis: 24% versus 6%, P < 0.0001). The high prevalence of SAM-not susceptible, AMC-susceptible isolates supports reporting AST results for both SAM and AMC to maximize options for antimicrobial therapy and to support antimicrobial stewardship."

Prevalence, characterization, and transmissible factors of foodborne pathogens in the Al-Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia.
(PubMed, Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand))
- "coli isolates exhibited complete resistance (100%) to ampicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, cefoxitin, and cephalothin. High resistance rates were also observed for norfloxacin (80.8%) and tetracycline (73.1%)...Imipenem remained the most effective antibiotic, showing 100% susceptibility among E. coli and S. aureus isolates and 93.3% effectiveness against A. baumannii. These findings underscore the critical need for routine microbial surveillance, implementation of rapid diagnostic tools, and enforcement of stringent food safety regulations to curb the spread of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens through the food supply chain."

PO-llution control: a cross-sectional study on the role of antimicrobial stewardship in reducing healthcare's carbon footprint.
(PubMed, JAC Antimicrob Resist)
- "Piperacillin-tazobactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, cefuroxime, metronidazole and meropenem together accounted for over 84% of total emissions, with piperacillin-tazobactam alone contributing 97.5 kg CO₂e and 41.6 kg of waste from 62 prolonged prescriptions. In addition to patient safety risks, prolonged IV antimicrobial courses generate considerable environmental waste. Aligning AMS with sustainability goals may contribute to addressing the dual crises of antimicrobial resistance and climate change."

An antibiotic stewardship initiative focused on community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) in outpatient clinics and urgent care centers: a 2023-2024 community health system experience.
(PubMed, Antimicrob Steward Healthc Epidemiol)
- "Among patients with comorbidities, combination antibiotics increased by 12% post-intervention, driven by concordant prescriptions including amoxicillin/clavulanate plus azithromycin while the most frequently prescribed discordant combination was amoxicillin plus azithromycin. A stewardship intervention, including an order-set and awareness campaign improved the selection of combination therapy for appropriate patients but did not improve overall guideline concordance. For health systems without a dedicated outpatient ASP, these data will help bolster stewardship efforts towards more effective strategies."

A Cross-Sectional Study of Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Escherichia coli Isolated From Clinical Samples: Single-Center Investigation in Indonesia.
(PubMed, Int J Microbiol)
- "ESBL-producing E. coli isolates demonstrated high sensitivity (above 90%) to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ceftazidime, ertapenem, meropenem, and tigecycline. The results highlight the urgent need for enhanced surveillance and infection control measures in healthcare settings to combat the spread of ESBL-producing E. coli. Healthcare professionals, including nurses and clinicians, must be aware of this resistance pattern to guide empirical treatment choices and improve patient outcomes in managing infections caused by these resistant strains."

Cytological diagnosis of paracoccidioidomycosis in pleural fluid
(ECP 2025)
- " The hospitalized patient initially received treatment with Koide D and Dipyrone...Subsequently, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate were prescribed. After seeking care at another hospital, Clarithromycin, Atrovent inhalations, and another course of corticosteroids were added to her treatment regimen... Diagnosing paracoccidioidomycosis through pleural fluid cytology presents a significant challenge due to the rarity and complexity of identifying Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. This case underscores the importance of meticulous cytological evaluation, particularly in patients who do not respond to conventional treatments for respiratory symptoms. Accurate identification of the fungus is crucial for effective clinical management, highlighting the value of cytology as a vital, though sometimes underutilized, diagnostic tool in complex clinical scenarios."
