Salivary proteins NlSP5 and NlSP7 are required for optimal feeding and fitness of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens.
(PubMed, Pest Manag Sci)
- "These findings deepen our understanding of the BPH-host interaction and may provide potential targets for the management of rice planthoppers."

Methylocystis suflitae sp. nov., a novel type II methanotrophic bacterium isolated from landfill cover soil.
(PubMed, Int J Syst Evol Microbiol)
- "The type strain is NLS-7 (=ATCC TSD-256=DSM 112294). The 16S rRNA gene and genome sequences of strain NLS-7 have been deposited in GenBank under accession numbers ON715489 and GCA_024448135.1, respectively."

Reducing Expression of Salivary Protein Genes by Flonicamid Partially Contributed to Its Feeding Inhibition of the Brown Planthopper on Rice.
(PubMed, J Agric Food Chem)
- "Here, from 20 functionally characterized salivary proteins, we screened five salivary proteins (NlShp, NlAnnix5, Nl16, Nl32, and NlSP7) whose gene expressions were significantly inhibited by flonicamid...These results suggested that the inhibition of flonicamid on the feeding behavior in N. lugens might be partially attributed to its effect on the expression of salivary protein genes. This study provides a new insight into the mechanism of action of flonicamid on insect pests."

Isolation Of Five Novel Methane Oxidizing Bacteria From The Deep Terrestrial, A Freshwater Creek, And Landfill Cover Soil
(ASM Microbe 2022)
- "We have also isolated a novel species of the genus Methylocystis (NLS-7) from landfill cover soil in Norman, OK, USA...Once characterized, it will also be the only formally characterized species of Methylocystis to be isolated from landfill cover soil. MOB are critical to the function of methane-producing ecosystems and this work highlights the biodiversity of these ecosystems while enriching our understanding of MOB ecology."

Salivary protein 7 of the brown planthopper functions as an effector for mediating tricin metabolism in rice plants.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "Our preliminary transcriptome research results showed that BPH salivary protein 7 (NlSP7), is highly responsive to tricin stimuli...These changes decreased BPH food intake, feeding behavior, and fitness, as well as the tricin content of the rice plants. These findings demonstrate that the salivary protein 7 of BPH functions as an effector for tricin metabolism in rice."

The sequence [EKRKI(E/R)(K/L/R/S/T)] is a nuclear localization signal for importin 7 binding (NLS7).
(PubMed, Biochim Biophys Acta Gen Subj)
- "Elucidating the complex relationships of the nuclear transporters and their cargo proteins may help in laying the foundation for the development of novel therapeutics, targeting specific importins, with an immediate translational impact."
