Evaluation of a cosmetic foam containing 15% azelaic acid for mild to moderate acne in Chinese patients
(EADV 2024)

Combination treatment on clinical improvement in rosacea patients
(EADV-Sp 2024)
- "The 1 group of 15 patients received pulsed dye laser (PDL) 595 nm procedures and topical therapy with 15% azelaic acid gel in combination with 1% ivermectin cream... All patients tolerated the treatment satisfactorily; no side effects were registered, which indicates the possibility of combined use of azelaic acid and ivermectin preparations in combination with botulinum therapy with incobotulinumtoxinA and PDL 595nm... According to the data of assessment of the dynamics of the DISS scale, the IGA index, DLQI the effectiveness of therapy of all treatment methods in relation to inflammatory, local and diffuse erythema is shown. Combination therapies are effective against both vascular and inflammatory components, local and diffuse erythema and increase patient satisfaction, represent a promising approach to the treatment of patients with erythematotelangiectatic and papulopustular subtypes of Rosacea."

Microencapsulated Benzoyl Peroxide for Rosacea in Context: A Review of the Current Treatment Landscape.
(PubMed, Drugs)
- "It evaluates the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of various US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved agents used for rosacea treatment, including E-BPO cream, metronidazole gel, azelaic acid gel and foam, ivermectin cream, minocycline foam, oral doxycycline, brimonidine gel, and oxymetazoline HCl cream...Further research is necessary to determine the exact role of E-BPO 5% in the therapeutic landscape for rosacea. However, based on available evidence, E-BPO 5% shows potential as a valuable treatment option for managing inflammatory lesions of rosacea, and it may offer benefits to patients including: rapid onset of action, demonstrated efficacy by Week 2, excellent tolerability, and sustained long-term results for up to 52 weeks of treatment."

Efficacy of combination therapy in patients with rosacea
(EADV 2023)
- "The first group of 12 patients received pulsed dye laser (PDL, with a wavelength of 595 nm) procedures and topical therapy with 15% azelaic acid gel in combination with 1% ivermectin cream...In the second group, 12 patients received intradermal injections of incobotulinumtoxinA in the area of redness with an interval of 1 cm between injections in combination with topical therapy with azelaic acid and ivermectin creams... Laser therapy PDL 595 nm is a leader in the treatment of individual telangiectasias and vascular pattern. Topical application of azelaic acid in combination with ivermectin shows a reduction in the inflammatory component in the form of pustules. Combination therapies are effective against both vascular and inflammatory components and represent a promising approach to the treatment of patients with erythematoteleangiectatic and papulopustular subtypes of Rosacea."

Adult female acne: long-term follow-up after use of azelaic acid in the treatment, and during the maintenance phase
(EADV 2023)
- "Maintenance therapy brings significant improvement in the reduction of lesions in women with mild and moderate adult acne. As much as possible, systemic therapy is the choice, and anti-androgens, particularly spironolactone, which is considered the first option in association with topical agents, such as 15% azelaic acid gel, used twice a day. This is the best topical regimen."

Pharmacological Interventions for Periorificial (Perioral) Dermatitis in Children and Adults: A Systematic Review.
(PubMed, J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol)
- "Oral tetracycline may improve physician-reported severity of POD from day 20 onwards (low certainty evidence)...Pimecrolimus cream may improve physician-reported severity slightly after 4 weeks of treatment (MD -0.49, 95% CI -1.02 to 0.04, n=164, low certainty evidence)...Azelaic acid gel may result in no change in either physician- or patient-reported severity after 6 weeks of treatment. The evidence is very uncertain about the effect of praziquantel ointment on physician-reported severity and skin-related quality of life after 4 weeks of treatment. The evidence is also very uncertain about the effect of topical clindamycin/ benzoyl peroxide on physician-reported severity...Data is required for children and from low-middle income countries to improve external validity. Future trials should also include adequate post-treatment follow-up and standardized outcome measures."

While treatment cost is a more frequent concern in patients treated with AAF, these patients less frequently reported concerns with treatment efficacy and reported similar or greater tolerance to side effects than patients treated with either MC or MG.
