[VIRTUAL] Improving haematology clinics: Chesterfield Royal Hospital experience
(BSH-I 2020)
- " Following a number of trials using the Plan Do Study Act approach, a Medway ODBT booking system was devised and fully implemented by the end of March 2019...The recent local results from the cancer patient survey (April to June 2019) confirmed this with 76% of patients saying the overall waiting time in clinic was ‘very short’ or ‘about right’. Our reflections on this SI work are:-There is a need for Trust level engagement where capacity is a major contributor to poor clinic experience for patients and staff-Detailed process mapping enables identification of key targets for change-SI must be driven by the staff involved, as they are familiar with the issues and already have many of the solutions"

Effect of artificial barriers on the distribution of the invasive signal crayfish and Chinese mitten crab.
(PubMed, Sci Rep)
- "Upstream barriers in the Medway positively influenced detection success of mitten crab lower in the catchment while detection success of signal crayfish was higher in the highly fragmented catchment (River Medway). This information on the role of river barriers on AIS distribution and eDNA detection is important for management strategies and for predicting both future dispersal and likelihood of new colonisations in previously uninvaded fragmented catchments."

[VIRTUAL] HOSPITAL RE-ADMISSIONS IN PATIENTS WITH INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE- WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS?
(UEGW 2020)
- "Hospital software (Sunquest Integrated Clinical Environment, Medway) was used to identify patients re-admitted at 30 and 90 days after discharge... The 30 day and 90 day re-admission rate for our IBD population is just over 10% and 20%, respectively. CRP at discharge is significantly associated with both 30 and 90 day re-admission. After adjusting for confounders; CRP, age older than 40 and male gender were associated with re-admission to hospital."

[VIRTUAL] Getting fit for surgery: introducing a multi-modal prehabilitation programme for our breast surgical patients
(EBCC-I 2020)
- "Medway NHS Trust has introduced a pilot prehabilitation programme in October 2018 for their breast cancer patients...Novel research is focussed on preventative medicine. If this pilot service is found to be of value to patients, prehabilitation can be cemented as part of the breast cancer treatment pathway."

Metaldehyde prediction by integrating existing water industry datasets with the soil and water assessment tool.
(PubMed, Water Res)
- "To achieve the study aim, a SWAT model was developed and calibrated for the River Medway catchment (UK)...The implications of this, are significant, because they suggest that SWAT could be applied universally to catchments using existing water industry datasets. This would allow more efficient use of historical datasets and would be applicable in situations where resources are not available for additional targeted monitoring programmes."

[VIRTUAL] A Retrospective study about violence and verbal abuse against staff in Accident and Emergency Department.
(EUSEM 2020)
- "Data was collected from the software departmental system(’’Medway ‘’)and from A&E database for all the patient who had a red card or a yellow card This was a pilot study/ index study on violence to Southend ED Staff... The risk of being a victim working in A&E Southend is 4%. Underestimated compared with national data. We considered that there is an under-recording of these incidents."

Pubic stress fracture presenting as a strain of adductor longus in a 16-year-old elite soccer player with Crohn's disease: a case report.
(PubMed, J Can Chiropr Assoc)
- "Following activity restriction, a period of rest, conservative care, and progressive rehabilitation, this athlete was able to achieve a pain-free state with near equal iso-kinetic strength bilaterally as measured by Cybex 6000 (Cybex International Inc., Medway, MA, USA) muscle testing...This case report presents a rare diagnosis of a unilateral pubic stress fracture presenting as a strain of adductor longus. Although quite rare, differential diagnoses such as a potential underlying stress fracture should be considered when presented with chronic or recurrent groin pain."

Efficient and stable Ru(III)/choline chloride catalyst system with low Ru content for non-mercury acetylene hydrochlorination
(ACS-Sp 2019)
- "...The prepared heterogeneous Ru-10%ChCl/AC catalyst shows perfect activity and long-term stability as well, and the conversion of acetylene remains larger than 99.0% after 400 h at an acetylene space velocity of 50 h-1 and 170 °C...More importantly, the addition of ChCl in RuCl3 forming the ChRuCl4 complex results in the synergistic effect to augment the activity and stability of Ru-based catalysts due to the enhancement of both nucleophilic and electrophilic abilities in this catalyst system. This efficient and long-term catalyst with a lower price is a competitive candidate in the acetylene hydrochlorination industry."
