Erdosteine enhances antibiotic activity in reducing Streptococcus pneumoniae and non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae viability in biofilms (ERS 2026) - May 30, 2026 - Abstract #PA4356; Pres time: Sep 7, 2026; 12:30 PM - 02:00 PM; Location: PS-8; Board Number: 12; "Our findings indicated that the addition of erdosteine together with azithromycin decreased the viability of Spn in both mono- and co-species biofilms by up to 100-fold, whilst the addition of erdosteine with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid decreased Spn viability in co-species biofilms by 100-fold and mono-species biofilms by 10-fold, respectively. Similar trends were also observed with Met-1. Study results indicate that erdosteine, in combination with antibiotics, improves treatment outcomes for biofilm-mediated respiratory diseases, which are a significant global health burden."
