Lcn2 mediates mesenchymal stem cell's small extracellular vesicles to inhibit hepatocyte ferroptosis in acute liver failure (APASL 2025) - Feb 20, 2025 - Abstract #EP0466; "We collected and identified MSC-sEVs and subsequently treated erastin-induced ALF hepatocytes with these vesicles... MSC-sEVs have been demonstrated to upregulate the expression of Lcn2 in hepatocytes subjected to ALF conditions. This upregulation of Lcn2 within the hepatocytes serves to diminish intracellular iron overload, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of ROS and exerting a negative regulatory effect on ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterized by excessive iron accumulation and ROS production. Table and Figure:Figure 1.Lcn2 transcript levels were upregulated in the liver of ALF mice treated with MSC-sEVs for 3 hours."
